Have you ever thought about how societal habits can change with the availability of infrastructure?

Let’s take the example of India’s journey towards becoming open defecation free.

Initially, it seemed impossible to solve the problem of open defecation, but the government and other public bodies worked tirelessly to create infrastructure, launch schemes like the ‘Pradhan Mantri Sauchalay Yojana’ for constructing free toilets in households, and make strict rules. They also awarded open defecation-free villages, districts, etc. and spread awareness among the people.

Today, the availability of toilets, public toilets, and even smart public toilets has made a significant impact. People are using these facilities and avoiding open defecation. It is all due to the availability of infrastructure.

However, the problem of open spitting is still prevalent, and many believe that citizens won’t change their habit. But I believe that this habit can be changed by creating convenient & smart infrastructure for spitting.

If we can provide such infrastructure and make it easily accessible, I’m sure that people will start avoiding open spitting. It is a small step towards creating a cleaner environment and healthier society.
